World’s First Digital Map Rental Service for Education

Students save money while Teachers organise safer trips. Those in the industry will have noticed over recent years Mapyx Quo stealing a march in the digital mapping market, regularly picking up awards and accreditations, most notably being the Official Digital Mapping Partner to Mountain Rescue.

So how does this fit for the schools market? Well Mapyx, the organisation behind Quo, has this month pulled off another first. Always looking for innovative ways for people to use and access their software, Mapyx have partnered with Software2 to launch the first digital maps 'rental service’ to education. This allows students and teachers to use and access their award winning maps at subsidised prices.

Steve Wood, Chairman of Mapyx said: “Students are used to renting their phone, accommodation and many other products or services, so why not computer software? We are very excited to be part of this groundbreaking service to rent our software to students and staff.”

The main reason this has not been done until now has been finding the technology to do so. Mapyx have partnered with Software2, the organisation behind the Viglen Student Portal which offers a range of software as 'rentals'. If you are a student going on trip, or a teacher planning one, the outright purchase of the detailed mapping and software may be beyond your means but with the launch of this service you don’t have to make do with a cheaper and inferior product and can instead rent Quo by the term (3-months).

Currently available is the Ordnance Survey 50k Landranger GB Map which students and staff can rent for 3 months. National Parks at Ordnance Survey 1:25k are coming soon - which will be perfect for planning walks for school trips.

For further information see the product on the Viglen Student Portal.
