ArcGIS Virtualised – World First

Taken from the Kingston University Website: ArcGIS Virtualised – World First

The Virtualisation of Applications technical team consisting of Malcolm Mcbeath, Chris Smith, James Holiday and Andy Ng project managed by Mike Phillips, have achieved a world first in successfully being able to virtualise ArcGIS.

ArcGIS, a world leader in mapping software, has previously proved problematic to virtualise due to the large volume of registry entries on installation. This reflects the skills that have been built up within the group over the past two years working on a project funded by the University’s Performance Improvement Fund.

Apart from the significance of virtualising ArcGIS and the recognition for SEC, the benefits of application virtualisation and in particular other specialist Faculty applications, previously only available in specialist laboratory areas, will potentially be available to SEC students from September, on any University PC.
